You Couldn't Write?
Have you used the phrases "書かなかった" and "書けなかった"?
Can you tell what the difference is between 書かなかった（～しなかった） and 書けなかった（～できなかった）?
書かなかった means that I didn't write.
書けなかった means that I couldn't write.
These might be the literal translations.
書かなかった has similar meaning to 書けなかった, but that depends on the situation.
I'll give you an example and a question.
(A)鉛筆を持って行くのを忘れたので、テストの答えを、（書かなかった/書けなかった）。
Which one is correct?
The answer is 書けなかった。
If I write "鉛筆を持って行くのを忘れたけど、借りるのがめんどくさかったので・・・", I'd say that the answer is 書かなかった.
(B) 契約書（けいやくしょ）にサインをしたかったけど、給料（きゅうりょう）に不満（ふまん）があったから名前を（書かなかった/書けなかった）
In this case, 書かなかった is better, but you can say 書けなかった.
If everyone including you doesn’t have a pen, the answer is 書けなかった.
